What is AI metadata generation in Mediapapa?

Mediapapa Feature

AI metadata generation is a feature in Mediapapa that writes initial drafts of alt text, image titles and captions based on image content analysis. It uses the Mediapapa API to analyse the image and return suggested text. You review and confirm before anything is saved.

How it works

Mediapapa sends the image to the Mediapapa API, which analyses the visual content and generates contextually appropriate metadata. The suggestions are returned to the editor. You see the draft text, edit it if needed, and save it with one click.

AI generation works on single files (button in the editor sidebar) or in batch across a filtered selection of files. Auto-fill on upload applies generation automatically when new files are added to the library.

Credits are consumed per field generated: one credit for alt text, one for title, one for caption. Credits are purchased separately and shared across all sites on a licence.

AI generation as a starting point, not a replacement

AI-generated metadata is a draft, not a final answer. The analysis is based on visual content — it can describe what is in the image but may miss context that you as the site owner know. A product image may need the specific product name in its alt text; an event photo may need the event name. Review is always required.

For large libraries where every file has empty alt text, AI generation reduces the work from “write 2,000 alt texts from scratch” to “review and correct 2,000 AI drafts”. The throughput improvement is significant; the editorial quality depends on how carefully the drafts are reviewed.
