What is media taxonomies and tagging in Mediapapa?

Mediapapa Feature

Media tagging is the system in Mediapapa that lets you assign one or more tags to any media file in your library. Tags are searchable and filterable in both the WordPress Media Library and the block editor insert modal, making large libraries navigable without folder structures.

How media tagging works

Tags are implemented as a WordPress taxonomy (extended_tags) registered on the attachment post type. Each file can have multiple tags. Tags appear as a filterable column in the Media Library list view and as a filter option in the editor media modal.

Unlike folders (a single parent-child hierarchy), tags allow a file to belong to multiple categories simultaneously. A product hero image can be tagged “hero”, “product”, “Q4 campaign” and “homepage” — making it findable via any of those searches.

Tags and advanced search

Mediapapa’s advanced search combines tag filtering with filename, alt text, caption and Media Score filters. You can find all images tagged “product” with a Media Score below 50 in a single query. Bulk tagging — applying a tag to a filtered selection of files at once — is a Pro feature.

Frequently asked questions

Are media tags the same as category or post tags?

No. Media tags in Mediapapa are a separate taxonomy registered on attachments. They are completely independent of post categories and post tags. They are also independent of FileBird folders — both can be used on the same site without conflict.

Is media tagging available in the free version?

Yes. Creating tags, assigning them to files and filtering by tag in the Media Library and editor are all free. Bulk tag operations — tagging a filtered selection of files at once — require Pro.
